Typhoon Hato, labelled as one of the biggest storms to hit the region has left a path of destruction across Southern China, Hong Kong and Macau. The storm was reported as a category 10 storm with reported 8 fatalities. Here are a few high-level details based on what we know:

• Reported maximum winds near Hato’s centre of 155km/h (95 mph) with damaging results to residential and commercial areas.
• Winds intensified in the morning with winds recorded at Tate’s Cairn and Waglan Island at 77km/h and 72km/h, with maximum gusts of 103km/h and 86km/H.
• Power was lost forcing business, government offices, schools and the stock market to close. Commuter services were also cancelled.
• Residents have been warned to prepare for continued destructive winds, possible flooding and landslips and to stay clear of submerged surrounding areas of the sea.
